Composite Garden Decking Project Clapham
We completed a composite decking project on Abbeville Road, Clapham, SW4. The house had undergone a complete refurbishment, with significant construction work including the installation of bi-fold doors to a new kitchen extension. At the initial consultation, the customers said that they wanted the outside garden surface to be a continuation of the internal tiled kitchen floor level. This is one of our specialties.
Having spent a significant amount of time working on their house, the clients also had some great ideas regarding the garden. They did not want a natural stone or tiled patio and decided on Ecodek solid composite decking in slate grey. This decking greatly complemented the colour of the bi-folding doors and the general colour scheme of their renovated house.
Quality composite decking has become increasingly popular. This is due to the fact it is not prone to the same faults and maintenance issues you see with timber decking. Composite is much less likely to fade, split or rot. It does not have the same soft fibre as timber and therefore does not accumulate algae or dirt in the same way as wood. Basically, it was the perfect material for the job and looked amazing as an extension of the ground level to the new renovated property.
Our clients wanted a ‘break’ between the deck and the rest of the garden to create a ‘room’ feel to the deck area. A place to entertain and relax.
To create a subtle distinction between the two garden areas, we suggested two treated timber raised beds with a framed top, finished in white. These act to frame the garden and decking areas in both directions and ensure they retain their own character and purpose.
The timber construction gave a lighter feel than brick or block and renders, eliminating the almost ‘barrier’ to the rest of the garden. In the same way, we kept the planting light by using a mixture of lavender, ornamental grasses, and a variety of flowering evergreen Hebes.
We also installed several ‘Chelsea’ trellis panels onto the new fencing out as far as the two raised beds – again to enhance the look of the whole deck area.
We completed the garden design and transformation with round recessed lights on the front and sides of the raised beds. The whole garden looked clean, contemporary, and beautiful with the sun shining down at 45% onto the deck. The perfect compliment to the new house renovation works.
